The Cloudflare Pages middleware uses HTMLRewriter to swap text tokens (like {{firstName}}) at request time — zero round-trips, no client-side JavaScript required.

Yes. AstroEdge runs on the Cloudflare free tier: 100K requests/day shared across Workers and Pages Functions, 5 GB D1 storage, unlimited static serving.
